Giveaway: The Book of Joby

This month I’m announcing a contest for one of my favorite books read over the last year every weekend of the month for a total of 4 contests. This weekend is giveaway #3, The Book of Joby by Mark J. Ferrari (review). The Book of Joby, a stand alone novel, is a modern-day retelling of the biblical story of Job including elements of the King Arthur legends – yet in spite of the combination of these two very familiar stories, […]

The Player of Games Giveaway

It’s Saturday again so it is time to announce giveaway #2 of the month! I’ve decided not to go in order of favorites each week even though I did my very favorite books of the year first (mostly because favorite book #2 is one of the four books I haven’t found time to review yet between work and the holiday season). Last week’s giveaway was fantasy so it’s time to give away a science fiction book. This week’s book is […]

Elizabeth Bear’s Promethean Age Novels

The other day I was browsing Elizabeth Bear’s website and found out that she plans to write at least a dozen “Promethean Age” novels. When I heard there were two books out and two more coming out this year, I figured that would be the end of the series. However, Bear would like to write a large number of novels that are either stand-alones or duologies that take place during various time periods within this setting. So far, I am […]

Book Giveaway!

Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear are two new authors I have discovered this year that I feel are writing excellent stories. I really enjoyed their collaborative novel A Companion to Wolves (reviewed here) and have an extra copy to give away to one lucky person. Like my own copy, it is first edition hardcover and signed by Sarah Monette (sadly, it is not signed by Bear as well, but signed by Monette is still pretty cool). The contest is open […]

Notable Reads of 2008 (so far)

With 2008 halfway over, I reached my goal of 25 books read halfway through the year so I’m hoping to actually finish 50 books this year. I really didn’t think I’d make it that far since I had a bunch of extra work eating into my spare time a while ago and had a month where I didn’t get much reading done because of it so I’m glad it’s working out so far. My favorite new author discovery of the […]

A Reading Game

I was going to post this last night, but blogger was down when I went to do so. Over at OF Blog, there is a kind of fun reading game if you’re one of those people (like me) who can never get enough of book lists. You list 5 books recently read and one you want to read in the near future. I’ve read a couple of books this year that I would rather forget about, so I won’t do […]
